Astronomers Discuss Asteroid That Could Collide With Earth.

Asteriod 2024 YR4 Is Not a Cause for Panic - Scientists
Scientists report that asteroid 2024 YR4, which may pose a potential threat to Earth, is causing minor concern. The probability of its collision with the planet is 1 in 77, and its movement is continuously monitored. This is stated by specialists from Science Alert.
On December 27, 2024, asteroid 2024 YR4 was detected by scientists using the Atlas telescope in Chile. Analysis of its movement revealed that it is moving away from Earth, but may come closer to our planet on December 22, 2032.
Currently, the object is being actively studied, but by April 2025 it will become impossible to observe it, including using the largest telescopes, as it will penetrate deeper into the Solar System.
According to current models, the asteroid will approach Earth again in December 2028, passing at a distance of about 8 million kilometers. This will provide scientists with more data and allow them to refine their forecast of its movement until 2032.
Although the calculations have an error margin of 100,000 to 12,000 kilometers, this uncertainty includes the diameter of Earth (approximately 12,000 kilometers).
The sizes of asteroid 2024 YR4 are still unknown, but it is estimated that its diameter may range from 40 to 100 meters, and it is composed of rock. In the case of a hypothetical collision, the consequences could be similar to the meteor explosion in the Tunguska region in 1908.
