EU may raise tariffs on imports from Ukraine: FT learned details.

The European Union is preparing to increase tariffs on Ukrainian imports
According to the Financial Times, the European Union may soon begin to impose higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports. This decision is related to the expiration of the duty-free trade scheme that was introduced after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The initiative to protect EU farmers was supported by Poland, which led to the decision to introduce new tariffs. The free trade agreement between the EU and Ukraine was temporarily suspended after the events of 2022. Currently, these tariffs are planned to be replaced by 'transitional measures' until a new comprehensive trade agreement is reached.
The chairman of the European Parliament's trade committee, Bernd Lange, expressed the opinion that this is 'really a very bad signal for Ukraine.'
A representative of the European Commission confirmed that negotiations with the Ukrainian side would not resume without additional checks of the free trade agreement. It is expected that the 'transitional measures' will reduce imports of certain products to facilitate the negotiation process.
At the end of 2022, a duty-free trade scheme for Ukrainian goods was introduced, which caused outrage among European farmers and politicians. The problem was that Ukrainian exports were causing price reductions in the EU, particularly in Poland.
Thus, this new decision by the European Union regarding tariffs on Ukrainian imports could seriously affect Ukrainian producers and the country's economy as a whole.
