Active discussions on the format of the 'Coalition of the Willing' mission
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, reported lively discussions regarding the format of the 'Coalition of the Willing' mission in Ukraine. This statement was made during a meeting of participating countries at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The discussion is ongoing: it could be a monitoring mission, a deterrence mission, a peacekeeping mission, a security enhancement mission or a defense mission. There are various options. And this is directly related to whether we have peace, - noted Kallas.
According to Kallas, participating countries are currently trying to clarify their capabilities for involvement in a potential mission. At the same Time, the role of European Union missions in this process is being defined.
Kallas emphasized that the mandates of EU missions have been preserved and adapted according to Ukraine's current needs.
The Ukrainian side constantly provides feedback: this works, this does not, change this. And we can do this, and, of course, also discuss these issues, - she explained.
Support from the United States is an important aspect.
The United States has an interest in having stability and peace in Europe, as what happens in Ukraine and how this war ends affects other security regions - for example, the Asia-Pacific. Therefore, this is also in their interests, - concluded Kaja Kallas.
