China promises 'decisive countermeasures' in response to US arms sales to Taiwan.

China opposed the sale of US arms to Taiwan and expressed outrage at the island president's transit stop on American territory.
According to Reuters, the US approved the sale of spare parts for F-16 fighter jets and radars to Taiwan worth 385 million dollars. This news was announced just hours before the Taiwanese president's visit to three diplomatic allies of the island in the Pacific region. As part of the trip, the president will stop at the Marshall Islands and American territory Guam.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the arms sale to Taiwan sends a negative signal to forces seeking independence for the island and undermines US-China relations.
China insists that it opposes any official cooperation between the US and Taiwan and condemns the United States for organizing the transit stop of the Taiwanese president.
China considers Taiwan to be its territory and does not rule out the possibility of taking the island by force. The status of Taipei remains one of the most contentious issues in relations between Beijing and Washington.
The US is considered Taiwan's most important international ally and arms supplier for the island, although it does not maintain official diplomatic ties. American support for Taiwan infuriates China.
