LendingTree analyzed driving statistics while intoxicated in the 50 largest cities in the United States. Interestingly, it is those from Generation Z who are most likely to get behind the wheel of luxury cars while drunk.

Favorite brands of drunks

The research showed that BMW owners most frequently drive under the influence of alcohol — 3.09 cases per 1000 drivers. Interestingly, four out of the top five brands in this dubious rating are luxury car manufacturers.

Number of intoxicated drivers per 1000 drivers:

  • BMW — 3.09
  • Ram — 3
  • Acura — 2.69
  • Audi — 2.42
  • Volvo — 2.42

Alcohol for the youngest

Generation Z drivers (aged 19 to 27 years) earned the crown for the highest level of drunk driving among age groups, standing at 2.62 per 1000 drivers. Following them is the next youngest group — millennials (aged 27 to 44 years) — with a figure of 2.4 per 1000 drivers.

The research showed that the level of drunk driving decreased with increasing age, with the Silent Generation (aged 79 to 95 years) having the lowest rate — only 0.21 per 1000 drivers.

'As people age, they tend to be less risk-prone. Generation Z will eventually reach the age of today's baby boomers (born 1946-1964). If they are lucky, younger drivers will then be more responsible.' — summarized LendingTree representative Rob Bhatt.
During the research, it was found that BMW owners are most likely to drive under the influence, and Generation Z leads in this indicator among age groups. These data provide some forecast regarding future driving culture and driver responsibility.
