Lithuania Plans to Purchase Military Vessels from Norway
The Minister of National Defense of Lithuania, Arvydas Anušauskas, announced the country's intention to purchase multifunctional military vessels from Norway during a meeting with Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik in Vilnius.
'We are actively working on assessing our capabilities regarding the purchase of vessels from Norway. Specific proposals are currently being considered, while a Norwegian evaluation of vessel models and possible next steps is also underway.'
She explained that these are modular vessels of the Vanguard class, which can be adapted for various types of missions.
It is planned that a decision on the purchase of vessels will be made by the end of the year. This will significantly enhance Lithuania's military capabilities and promote cooperation with the country's defense industry. The minister also indicated that some components may be produced at local enterprises, in addition to weapon systems.
Anušauskas emphasized the importance of using standardized vessel models as a key factor. According to her, this will help avoid logistics and maintenance problems in the future. A decisive factor will also be Norway's choice regarding the use of the same vessel models.
