The US found a way to 'save' financial aid for Ukraine at $5.8 billion, - The Hill.

The administration of President Joe Biden has approached the US Congress with a request to extend the presidential powers to reduce the supply of weapons to Ukraine until 2025. The purpose of this request is to allocate approximately $5.8 billion after September 30.
Pentagon spokesman, Major General Pat Ryder, provided detailed information on the situation. According to him, under the presidential authority to reduce expenses on Ukraine, $5.9 billion remains. It is critically important that all these funds, except for $100 million, must be used by the end of the fiscal year.
The US Department of Defense plans to continue providing cost-reduction packages in the near future. At the same Time, active work is being done with Congress to extend reduction powers after the end of the current fiscal year.
The Biden administration has effectively used these powers for the quick delivery of weapons to Ukraine. It is important to emphasize that this weaponry came directly from the US Department of Defense's reserves. The funds allocated by Congress are related to the assessment of military equipment transferred to Ukraine, as well as the money used to replenish American reserves.
For the White House, it is critically important to extend the $5.8 billion authority. This will allow continued aid to Ukraine in small batches. Without this extension, the administration may be faced with a difficult choice: allocate all funds by October 1 and use the remaining year for equipment deliveries. However, this option is considered less preferable due to potential legal issues.
The situation is complicated by political games in Congress, which significantly hinder the approval process of necessary decisions. The Pentagon is working with Congress to avoid losing the remaining funding for Ukraine.
