Svitolina started confidently at the 2024 Olympics with a victory.

In the first round of the Olympic Games, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (No. 31 WTA) confidently defeated Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (No. 66 WTA) with a score of 6:2, 6:1.
In the next round, Svitolina will meet with American Jessica Pegula (No. 6 WTA) or Swiss Viktoria Golubic (No. 79 WTA).
Svitolina became the first Ukrainian tennis player in the 1/16 finals of the Olympics. Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska, who will play against New Zealander Lulu Sun and Brazilian Laura Pigossi respectively, may join her in the second round.
Let us remind you that Svitolina is a former world No. 3 and the best tennis player in the history of Ukraine.
At the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo-2020, Svitolina won a bronze medal. This award became the first in the history of independent Ukraine in tennis.
In addition, Svitolina, together with swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk, carried the flag of Ukraine at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
Let’s also recall that Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina (No. 47 WTA) refused to participate in the Olympics. The reason for this decision, according to the athlete, was a sore throat.
