One of the largest diamonds in history has been found at the Karowe mine in Botswana. The stone weighs 2492 carats and was extracted using special technology.
«We are very pleased to find this exceptional diamond weighing 2492 carats», – said Lucara Diamond President William Lamb.
This incredible find, one of the largest uncut diamonds, was discovered and retrieved using X-ray technology installed in 2017. It helps identify and preserve valuable stones.
The President of Botswana will visit the diamond on Thursday. Botswana is one of the largest diamond producers in the world, accounting for the main revenue of the country.
Previously, the largest diamond found in Botswana was Sewelo, weighing 1758 carats, also mined by Lucara Diamond in 2019. The largest diamond in history is the «Cullinan» diamond weighing 3106.75 carats, discovered in 1905 in South Africa.
It is also worth noting that a father and son from Arizona found a two-carat diamond at the «Crater of Diamonds» park in Arkansas. This is the second-largest diamond registered in the park in 2024. Will Barnett and Marshall Barnett decided to try their luck in the park, which was once a volcano with diamonds.
