The History of Ukrainian Press
The Ukrainian press appeared much later than in Europe due to political conditions in the country and the lack of statehood. The first Ukrainian publication was the Kharkiv journal 'Ukrainian Herald', which was published in the mid-17th century.
This publication included news, articles on history, ethnography, and geography of Ukraine. However, already at the beginning of the 18th century, printing in the Ukrainian language was banned.
Zelensky awarded journalists for their significant work and contribution to solving important social issues. Journalist Day is celebrated by Ukrainians annually on June 6 and honors the importance of the journalistic profession and freedom of speech.
